Gisa Ruland graduated as a landscape architect at Leibniz University Hanover, Germany, in 1985. She worked as scientific consultant in several offices in Germany (Hanover, Berlin) and Austria (Vienna), worked at the Austrian Institute of Ecology, teaches in the Vienna University of Technology and finished her thesis at the University of Hanover in 2002.

Since 1996 she runs an office for environmental and open space planning in Vienna with the main topics: research projects about high quality open space design in cities, city- and landscape development, as well as participation processes.
